Recommendations happen off your site
Friends compare serums in group chats, DMs and comments. Without a personal link or code, a purchase that came from a recommendation looks like any other order, and the person who made it earns nothing.
Beauty is a habit purchase, and shoppers already swap product tips with friends. A referral program gives that talk a link, a reward and a way to track it. Here is how to set one up on Shopify with BLOOP.
The challenge
Friends compare serums in group chats, DMs and comments. Without a personal link or code, a purchase that came from a recommendation looks like any other order, and the person who made it earns nothing.
Beauty customers reorder. A large cash-style reward on every referral can eat the profit on the first order, so the reward needs to fit the margin of a typical first purchase.
A referral that lands the wrong product for someone's skin leads to a return, not a second order. You want the invite to point at the right starter product, and you want the reward to wait until the sale holds.
Reward recipe
Example: A first order is $48 and your gross profit on it is $30. The new customer gets $8 off, and the referrer earns $10 in store credit. The two rewards add up to $8 + $10 = $18, which is under the $30 profit, so $30 - $18 = $12 is left before other costs. Your own numbers will differ.
Plays to run
BLOOP's own reward guidance suggests store credit for repeat, habit-forming categories like beauty. Store credit is applied to the customer's account and brings the referrer back to your store for the next order.
Uses: Referrer and referee rewards →The referee reward can be a discount coupon or a free product, and it applies to first-time customers only. A fixed amount off keeps the offer easy to read for a new shopper.
Uses: Referrer and referee rewards →A free product reward can include up to five items given on the next order. BLOOP guidance notes it works when the item complements the purchase, such as samples, refills and accessories, and the cost to you is your unit cost, not the retail price.
Uses: Referrer and referee rewards →The post-purchase block appears on the order status page right after checkout, when the customer has just bought something they are excited about. Add it in the checkout editor and show the friend's offer next to the referrer's reward.
Uses: Popup, referral page and hub →Choose whether rewards are granted when the order is paid or fulfilled, optionally lengthen the review period (the default is 6 hours), and have BLOOP take the reward back on a cancellation or refund. A refund counts once 90% or more of the item value is refunded, so a fully returned order does not stay a paid reward.
Uses: Referrer and referee rewards →A referral link captures the friend's email for follow-up. A code works when someone says it out loud or types it at checkout. BLOOP recommends turning both on and tracks them separately.

BLOOP's reward guidance suggests store credit for the referrer and a fixed amount off a trial or first order for the referee in beauty. The deciding rule is that both rewards together stay below your profit on a referred first order.
Yes. The free product reward lets you give up to five items on the referrer's next order. The cost to you is your unit cost.
BLOOP's Fraud Center looks at signals such as matching email addresses and aliases, last names, shipping addresses, IP addresses and browsers. Flagged rewards are held for 14 days and the order is tagged BLOOP suspicious referral so you can review it.
Yes. A/B testing runs a control and one variation per campaign with an approximate 50/50 split of new participants. Change one variable at a time, such as the discount value or the reward type.
